Snowstorm on the Beach

A rare occurrence for the OBX day before yesterday... a snowstorm. It snowed most of the day for a total of around 3". Naturally, the kids were out of school the following day. I'm not sure if we even have plows or sanders down here to do anything about the roads anyway.

If was a beautiful scene, but we opted not to cross the big bridge to take a beach photo. Looking over Roanoke Sound yesterday, though, Jockey's Ridge looked like a giant snow mogul. Pretty cool. Here's a video & stills:

Skiing Trip

Ryan and I went skiing with the Jones family at Massanutten this past weekend. The conditions were excellent for VA skiing, and we even had a bit of light snow. While Jared and Jalyn took beginner lessons, Ryan opted out. Turns out, Ryan is a pretty darn good skier! While Jenny and Jared spent most of Sunday in the lodge, Jon, Jalyn, Ryan and I skied mostly the green trails.

On Monday, we went to the waterpark most of the day. No photos, though.

Birthday Party Plus Lizards?

The Casey twins celebrated their 11th birthdays, and Ryan was invited to the party. It was a beautiful night for a bonfire, and the kids had a sleepover - playing ping pong and goofing around late into the night. The next day, the boys went lizard hunting. While most of the lizards survived their captivity, the boys discovered that hot tubs are not to a lizard's liking.

Christmas Break

Over the Christmas break, Ryan spent nearly a full week with us. While the winter offers fewer options for activities, we had a great time as always. In addition to playing with his gifts, Ryan also discoverd Sim City 4 on the PC. He now loves the game, and is a natural builder.

Life is good. Sitting in bed, playing Sim City. "Where are the fritos, Dad?"

Halloween @ Busch Gardens

Ryan, Sherry and I went to Busch Gardens for the Halloween scare-fest they put on in October. We were accompanied by the whole Casey family and stayed until the park closed down. The attractions were excellent, and although the park was extremely crowded, I think we'll return next year.

The kids provided non-stop entertainment for Ansley and Mike.
