Yesterday, my neighbor Joe asked me to help him take down the eisenglass curtains from his pontoon boat in our nearby canal. When we arrived, he noted that the boat lift next to his boat was owned by Andy Griffith. However, the boat lift was empty, and a nearby jeep suggested that perhaps the boat was in use. While just finishing up the curtains, sure enough, Andy Griffith's boat returned. At the helm was Mr. Griffith himself accompanied by his wife. I helped them moor their boat back into the lift, and we struck up a conversation.
Mr. Griffith is quite old at this point, but still very recognizable. He indicated that he doesn't walk much, and uses a rascal around the house. I had been told by friends before that there was a certain protocol that existed when one ran into him, so I had the heads-up to basically not pry. He and his younger wife were very interested in Joe's dog, Monty Python, so we mostly compared notes on each other's dogs.
At any rate, he and his wife were very pleasant, and it was great to meet them both.
